Often times, I tease my kids and
neighborhood kids to write some poetry.
They innocently ask, what is
poetry? So, I wanted to write a poem about
poetry itself.
Tried to make it as simple
and easily understandable. No violence of verbosity
and tyranny of dense thoughts, or ethereal lunacy. Hence, without
much fuss, here
are few lines about simple prose/poetry to inspire children to be aware of , read
and write some poetry/verse.

What is poetry?
/--------------------------------------------------------
It is about rising and
falling sun, its rays and its shining
It is about hiding and seeking
moon, grey shapes on it
It is about tiny twinkling
stars up there and so many of them
It is about bluish vast sky, its
nearness, farness and its colors
It is about ever repeating
cycle of seasons and bounties they bring along
It is about flapping and
flitting butterflies and bright clothes they wear
It is about spitter-spatter
of rain and its silver lines and bubbles it creates
It is about flying birds of
all sizes, their many colours and soft feathers
It is about plants and trees
and their baby life, their play with wind
Their canopy, boring bark,
their shiny leaves, fruits, roots and seeds.
It is about lovely blooming
buds and flowers and their bright paints
About buzzing bees around them,
the flowery smells and their short life
It is about misty mornings,
bright evenings and beautiful nights
It is about mommy’s love for
us, grandparents grand pampering
It is about all the strange cooking sounds and smells from
kitchen
It could be about many gods around us and their unbelievable
stories
It could also be about us, our thoughts and feelings just
about anything.
Simply superb Satya - Sampath
